Teach Yo’Self

P1280450

I’m basically a self taught cook. I remember when it started, I was newly engaged and wanted (obsessively) to learn how to cook. I remember collecting recipes, watching the food network, and just diving head first into everything I could learn. I loved it, and still do, I still feel the same as I did then, except I have almost 15 years of confidence behind me. That confidence came from many, many failures though, as my loving husband will attest to.

I love the information age. My daughter was born with leaky gut and had food allergies from birth. Her life, and mine would have been drastically different if it wasn’t for the internet. I have a health care background, but nothing I learned in school or practice could have prepared me for being a parent of an allergy baby. I felt so alone after she was born, like no other parents were going through what I was. I learned little helpful things one by one and put the pieces of the puzzle together. I could pretty much guarantee that wouldn’t have happened without the resources I found online.

I want to encourage you to teach yourself new things. I’m right there with you. I’m teaching myself web design, writing, photography and so many other things. I could have easily waited until I was an expert in all those things to start blogging, or pay someone else to do it for me. I decided I really needed to jump in head first and just start creating. So you will see here all my growing pains! As I watch my kids grow up, I’m really inspired by the process. It is such hard work at first, nearly impossible. I want to be a good example for my kids to do hard things. Things that are uncomfortable, not perfect, and risking failure. Growth, and exiting your comfort zone are never a bad thing. Scary, yes, but join me, I’d love to support you as you learn new things and grow along with me.  I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I’d love for you to join me in the process. Don’t be surprised if I tell you to google it though, there is an entire world of information at your fingertips today, so we don’t have an excuse! Thanks for reading, friend.
